Shoppers who walk in the hot pink front door of City Limits will find everything from vintage jewelry to refrigerator magnets and more.
City Limits, located in a converted home at 115 N. Center St. in Gardner, KS open Tuesday-Sat. 10-6, carries t-shirts, purses, dishes, antiques, candles, and greeting cards.
I decided Gardner needed something fun and unique. We thought it would be a great place to put in a little shop."
Calling her vintage jewelry "definitely the core of the shop," owner Terra Swopes, a Lubbock, Texas, native, said, "I modeled City Limits after a store in Keller (Texas) called The Funky Monkey and just brought the idea here.”
Swopes said her longtime friend, Melinda Sanker,--who now designs jewelry for both The Funky Monkey and City Limits--first sparked her interest in vintage jewelry. "She really taught me to accessorize," she said. "She taught me that you can really dress up a t-shirt and jeans with a little jewelry.”
"We were just hoping we could create a place where someone could step out of the box and get something they wouldn't normally find," Swopes said. "I want everybody to be able to find something, whether they're younger or older. I want them to leave with their little fun bag of stuff, feeling good about themselves.
"I wanted it to be like a little treasure chest."
"I would rather regret the things that I have done
than the things that I have not."
